It's all upside-down
The four of us went for coffee this morning. I looked at my watch as we sat down and it was a few minutes to eleven. That means that jetlag has now been worked through. Coffee at 11 is happily re established. Time stability regained.
I think I've made friends with the hire car (if not the hirers) As with everything these days, you plug your phone in and it takes over your life. I'm not used to a big telly screen on the dash, covered with touch screen electronics. My car doesn't even bleep when I reverse, let alone guide me into a space visually.
Kate and I went out for a few hours this afternoon. First we went to a retail outlet. This is where you go to observe life now. What do the natives buy, eat, drink, wear and entertain themselves with?
Australians are surprisingly British in many ways. We feel like we are a long way from home - we are! - and then we are surprised when people speak English. We have loads of brands and shops in common. Specsavers!
But we reckon the food portions are even bigger. I was going to buy a sandwich for lunch but the size of them broke my nerve. I had a single sushi thing, one of those rice wrapped in seaweed jobs. It was enough.
This was followed by a walk round the local botanic garden where, as usual, we recognised very few plants. The ones we did recognise were all wrong. There were daffodils and tulips pushing up and blossom on the fruit trees.
We watched the Australian news this evening. It might as well have been the UK. All the same issues.
It seems that, in many ways, the whole world is upside-down at present...
Taking no chances

Where do snake occur unnaturally do you think? Thinking back to the Butcher bird - diminished 5ths over and over - that’s the beginning of Danse Macarbe isn’t it - listening to that in the wee small hours could be unsettling 👻
